Tomasky and Heifner elected as Board Chair and Vice Chair of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority

Susan Tomasky has been elected Chair of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors with William Heifner to serve as Vice Chair. Together they will lead the Board of Directors in fulfilling the Airport Authority’s vision to connect Central Ohio with the world.

Elected Nov. 26 by a unanimous vote of the Airport Authority Board of Directors, Tomasky and Heifner begin their two-year terms effective Dec. 1. They may serve in these roles for up to two terms. Tomasky and Heifner each bring tremendous business acumen to these important leadership positions.

Tomasky previously served as President-AEP Transmission, and prior to that held various other senior executive positions at AEP, the Columbus-based electric utility company with operations in Ohio and 10 other states. She was also formerly General Counsel of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C. She currently serves on the Boards of several energy companies and the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. She has served on the Airport Authority’s Board of Directors since 2008, most recently as Vice Chair and as a member of the Board’s human resources and finance & audit committees.

"I applaud the leadership of current Chairman Dwight Smith, who led the Airport Authority Board through turbulent economic times. In the face of these challenges, Port Columbus saw significant efficiency and infrastructure improvements, including the opening of the new south runway and the beginning of the terminal modernization project,” said Tomasky. “I look forward to continuing his dedication to excellence and to supporting the ongoing efforts of Airport Authority leadership to create exceptional travel experiences for passengers, strategic opportunities for businesses, and vital economic growth for the Central Ohio region.”

The Columbus Regional Airport Authority oversees the operation of passenger-focused Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), cargo-focused Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK), and general aviation airport Bolton Field (TZR). An independent economic impact study completed in 2012 found that the three airports and select businesses with direct ties to the Airport Authority account for more than 54,000 jobs, $1.8 billion in annual payroll and $6.6 billion in total annual economic output.

William R. Heifner, who founded Renier Construction in 1980, began serving on the Airport Authority Board of Directors in 2009 and chairs the facilities & services committee while serving on the finance & audit committee. Other Board members include the following: Don M. Casto, III; Frank J. Cipriano; John W. Kessler; Wm. J. Lhota, P.E; Jordan A. Miller, Jr.; Kathleen H. Ransier, Esq.; and Dwight E. Smith.

The Airport Authority Board of Directors, composed of nine business and community leaders, is the governing body of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. Four members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Columbus with the advice and consent of City Council, four are appointed by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, and one member is appointed jointly by the Mayor and the Franklin County Board of Commissioners to serve four-year staggered terms.
