Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi and Renier Construction to Break Ground on New Facility in Minnesota
Richfield officials delighted with improvement plans and community investment
Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi will begin construction of their new $3.5 million state of the art facility with a demolition and groundbreaking ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 16 at the new site located at 401 77th Street West, Richfield, MN 55423. Tom Wood Management, the owner of Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi, an established automotive sales and service business, currently located in Bloomington, MN, selected the design-build team of Renier Construction and Architectural Alliance to design and construct the new facility. The new Mitsubishi facility will be located adjacent to the existing Richfield Bloomington Honda dealership and a new complex will expand across three additional properties recently purchased by Tom Wood Management, (LaMettry’s Auto Body, USA Baby and Tires Plus).
Representatives from the City of Richfield, Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi and Honda, Tom Wood Management, Renier Construction and Architectural Alliance will be on hand to unveil the new project, recognize those who have brought the development to fruition, break ground for the new building, and begin demolition of the existing building on the site. Construction will begin immediately following the groundbreaking with a project completion date in March of 2014.
In total, Tom Wood Management will invest over $25 million in the Richfield Bloomington area through the development of the new automotive campus in Richfield, Minnesota. Honda and Mitsubishi automotive brands will share the new 133,000 sq. ft. complex.
Mitsubishi will occupy one-third of the footprint of the new campus. The 25,200 sq. ft. building will include a 1,725 sq. ft. showroom, a 350 sq. ft. sales center, a 7,720 sq. ft. service area, a 580 sq. ft. customer waiting area and 9 service bays. The Mitsubishi project will generate an additional 12 jobs and will allow Mitsubishi to triple the number of automobiles sold at their existing site.
“We are very grateful to the city and our construction and design partners,” stated Jeff Wood, President and CEO of Tom Wood Management. “With their collaboration, we’ve created a mutually beneficial plan that brings investment and jobs to the community while providing us the modern business platform that we need. We’re excited about this project, and committed to deepening our roots in the Richfield Bloomington area,” continued Wood.
In the Harriett corridor, a beautification process will be completed with elaborate landscaping including shade trees, flowers, and benches to provide a ‘park-like’ atmosphere for the community to enjoy.
Over thirty sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally sensitive strategies are incorporated into the design of the campus. Water efficiency, as well as energy, material and resource conservation and reuse are featured.
“The City of Richfield is absolutely delighted with the investment Tom Wood Management is making in this community,” stated Debbie Goettel, Mayor of Richfield. “Once completed, not only will the new development create 65 jobs, the area will be transformed, reinforcing the ‘small town in a big city’ feel for which Richfield is known,” continued Goettel.
Construction will be completed in multiple phases beginning with the Mitsubishi brand to begin in September 2013 and completed in March 2014. The Honda brand construction will begin in February 2014 and will be completed in January 2015.
A final phase, to be completed in 2020, will include the addition of 47,000 sq. ft. multi-story parking ramp, garage, detail/general repair facility and storage for additional inventory. It is estimated that 20 additional jobs will be created when the final phase is constructed, bringing the total to 65 additional jobs for all three phases. Total square footage for the automobile dealership and service campus will be 132,600 sq. ft.
“In our 33 years of building automotive dealerships, the Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi and Honda campus represents the culmination of the most innovative design, the most sustainable and environmentally suitable elements, with a solid construction process,” stated Bill Heifner, President of Renier Construction. “We look forward to celebrating the opening ceremony of the Mitsubishi dealership in March with the great people of this community,” continued Heifner.
