Performance Drive Direct
Renier recently completed a 125,120 square foot renovation and alteration for Performance Auto Group. Performance Drive Direct is a pre-owned sales and reconditioning collision center and now calls a former call center on Morse Road home!

The property was purchased to grow and relocate their pre-owned sales and collision repair business that was part of their Toyota Direct campus. The finished space includes a 12-bay reconditioning center, 50,847 square foot showroom, inventory, and vehicle reception area, as well as a 41,843 square foot collision center with four downdraft paint booths and 21 repair stalls.

The Renier team, true to form, had a very aggressive schedule to keep. Working to meet client expectations while meeting building code – especially with “change of use” for the building – required extensive coordination with the City of Columbus. There were four phases of occupancy which required seamless coordination and communication from tradespeople to project managers to our client. Once again, Renier’s design-build project management process and execution ensured the team met every deadline!

Additional facility photos and information can be found here.

Hogan Facilities Update

"Renier has built four new locations and two complete facility remodeling projects for us over the years. The first project they did for us was in 1993. They’re familiar with the type of building we want to be built based on industry experience. We have always had a good experience with them. They understand what we want and we have a good relationship as well as a very high trust factor with the team at Renier.

Renier listened to us. They’re open-minded. The team would take our ideas and thoughts and make them better. They’re not afraid to present a new way or better way to do something. They communicate very well and listen very well. They really do try to understand what we want and then guide us with the best way to get there.

Renier is a very high-quality organization, they’re professional. They’re not the cheapest alternative but they bring value.

If you want a nice project when you’re done and with as few headaches as possible, you need to use Renier. You’ll get a good result and they’ll stand behind it.

The one thing I always tell people about Renier is that we have a very high trust level with the team at Renier. They’ve always been 100% straightforward and honest with us and very, very easy to work with."

Dayton Freight-Council Bluffs Update

The Dayton Freight Council Bluffs, IA project is complete! The terminal and offices were a new build and completed in just 10 short months! The facility is 23,000 square feet with 17,000 square feet of truck docks and 6,000 square feet of office space for the Dayton Freight team.

The facility was needed to better serve a growing area. Dayton Freight was leasing space in Omaha that was limited in capacity. The new space more than doubled its capacity and saved them money in the long run!

The space was designed and constructed to easily expand to a 62 dock doors facility when needed. (Yes 62!) It also includes a fuel island as well as concrete pavement for longevity and to support the traffic the facility will see. Because of this, the space required quite the load of concrete! We poured 4,400 cu yds of concrete – complete with rebar to support the weight of the trucks. Fun fact, one concrete truck carries 10 cu yds - so it took about 440 trucks to deliver all of the concrete!

The winters in the area are brutal so we needed to phase the concrete but clearly could not pour concrete over winter. Therefore, we stabilized the subgrade on the property to protect the stone base through the winter prior to pouring the concrete the following spring. This allowed for the subgrade to remain stable through the multiple freeze/thaws which saved having to restabilize it again in the spring prior to the concrete pour. This innovative approach saved both time and money as not only additional costs (especially with the ever-increasing materials costs), but also the additional time which the restabilization would add to the completion schedule. Another project completed – on time and on budget! Well done team!

Continued Commitment to Safety

We shared our commitment and successes regarding safety with you around this time last year. We’re renewing our “safety vows” through a formal Safety Committee. The goal of the committee is to bring our team together and perform all work in a safe manner. The team has three objectives: continue to ensure safety is a part of Renier’s culture by involving employees; prompt review of safety incidents and work toward reduction and elimination; conduct surveys to identify hazards and recommend methods for reduction and elimination.

The committee will have six representatives – one from each department and will be volunteers or nominations. Every six months the representatives will rotate to ensure new perspectives and total company involvement and investment in the continued commitment to safety.

We’re proud of our safety record and want to continue to do all that we can to ensure 100% compliance and safety for our team!

Work Hard, Play Hard

We celebrated together as a team for the first time in a while! Christmas in July felt right for our theme as the company of our family really did feel like Christmas! We had “friendly” (and not so friendly) competitions while enjoying each other at our recent TopGolf event. Here are a few photos of the group – be sure to follow us on social to see what else we’re up to!

We’re Growing to Better Serve Our Clients
Please welcome the following new employees to team Renier:
Employee Spotlights

David Joseph

David Joseph joined Renier Construction in May of this year as a Project Superintendent and is currently working on multiple automotive projects for Renier. David brings a valuable 41 years of construction experience to the Renier team. Working hand in hand daily with the job subcontractors, as well as regular meetings with additional Renier team members and the owners, he has a continuous perspective on the day-to-day needs of his projects.

Before joining Renier, he spent most of his time traveling on construction projects covering numerous industries and projects of varying size and scope across the United States. His extensive background enables him to foresee timeline disruptions and help maintain both schedule and budgets.

David is OSHA 30 hour certified and attended Ohio University, where he dual majored in psychology and photojournalism. Interestingly, he attended OU on a golf scholarship (we’ll keep that in mind for the next golf outing Renier is a part of!) He resides in Groveport with his wife Brenda. He has 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter, and 4 grandchildren. He explained that he just enjoys being home spending time with his family and grandchildren! (We can’t think of anything better!)

Welcome Back - Joe Pence

We also say – Welcome back Joe Pence! After a brief hiatus, Joe has rejoined the Renier team!  Joe is a Project Superintendent for Renier so he’s on the job site every day handling the daily scheduled responsibilities and any issues that may arise. He’s in direct communication with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and the entire project team and owner on a daily (or more!) basis.  As the on-site team member, he’s an integral part of the flow of work and communication that keeps projects on schedule. He reviews the project plans and specs frequently and ensures that the worksite adheres to all safety regulations.

Joe brings a lengthy and extensive construction background with him as he’s been working in the industry for over 40 years! Combined with his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Kent State University, he's OSHA Certified and brings an exceptional skill set to projects.

He's also an avid collector of WW2 Marine Pacific Theater items, including Japanese articles and loves spending time at his vacation house on Lake Erie and boating his 38’ Cigarette Top Gun! He currently resides in Marysville, OH. And, as a volunteer for Leesburg Township for 30 years, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals for 25 years and a member of the Zoning Board for 5 years, Joe’s a valued & active member of his community.

THANK YOU!

Neal Bronder

A long-time team member, Neal recently retired after 25 years of dedicated service with Renier, most recently serving as our company President. His 40+ years of work in the construction industry provided valuable insight and experience as Renier has grown. While he’ll remain on in a consultant role at Renier, you’ll more than likely find him at one of his favorite fishing holes, volunteering with his church or community, or spending time with his family.

Dave Gawel

A Renier team member since 2012, Dave concluded his over 40-year career in the construction and automotive industries. Luckily Dave will continue to assist Renier on a consulting level – mainly assisting with automotive clients. While we’ll occasionally see him in the office, he will likely be spending time traveling and enjoying his extended family and grandchildren.

Both of these Renier team members will certainly be missed as we step into the next 40 years of success at Renier!  We recognize that their knowledge and experience has helped build and shape Renier into the company it is today!

THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN! ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT!
