Renier Construction Renovates Byers Toyota and Prepares for Delaware's First Wind Turbine

Renier Construction is nearing completion of the conversion of Byers Automotive Group’s Delaware Ford dealership into a new showroom for its Toyota dealership. The final phase of the renovation project will be the installation of the municipality’s first wind turbine, which is expected to be completed in early 2010.

The 55-tall wind turbine’s blades are 16 feet in length. Mike MacKay, Project Executive for Renier Construction, explained, “When in operation, the turbine will produce more than 22,000 watts per hour and is expected to offset the electricity used for the showroom and exterior lights. Toyota is known for its commitment to green manufacturing and the use of wind to help power the dealership is fitting.”

A permit for the wind turbine has been approved by the City of Delaware. Additional steps in the approval process include establishing a net metering agreement with AEP and applying for grants from the state of Ohio to help offset the $100,000 investment.

The newly renovated 44,000-square-foot Toyota dealership includes a 14,000-square-foot showroom and 6,000 square feet of second floor office space. The dealership will feature Toyota’s Scion line.
