Minnesota Mitsubishi Dealership Under Construction – Phase One of $25 Million Multi-Dealership Project

Mitsubishi North America President and CEO Yoichi Yokozawa was in the Twin Cities recently for the groundbreaking ceremony of Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi’s new 25,200 square-foot facility.

Renier Construction is building the $3.5 million Mitsubishi dealership as part of a broader $25 million expansion for Tom Wood Automotive Group, a family-owned, rapidly growing, automotive organization operating seventeen franchises in Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Colorado.

Mitsubishi will occupy one-third of the footprint of the new automotive campus in Richfield, Minnesota with Richfield Bloomington Honda.

“We are very excited about this store because we see great potential for growth,” Yokozawa said. “They can easily double or even triple their sales.”

Representatives from the City of Richfield, Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi and Honda, Tom Wood Management, Renier Construction and Architectural Alliance were on hand to unveil the new project, recognize those who have brought the development to fruition, break ground for the new building, and begin demolition of an existing building on the site.

Participating in the groundbreaking ceremony on the new site are pictured from left to right - Bill Heifner, President of Renier Construction; Tim Carter, General Manager of Richfield Bloomington Honda; Brent Wade, General Manager of Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi; Debbie Goettel, Mayor of the City of Richfield; Angie Schaefbauer, President of the Richfield Chamber of Commerce; Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America; and John Wood, Vice President of Tom Wood Automotive Group. Neal Bronder, Renier Project Executive will oversee the construction process.

Construction will be completed in multiple phases beginning with the Mitsubishi brand in Spring 2014 and the Honda dealership in early 2015. Once completed the multi-phase development will create 65 jobs. The entire area will be transformed.

“In our 33 years of building automotive dealerships, the Richfield Bloomington Mitsubishi and Honda campus represents the culmination of the most innovative design, the most sustainable and environmentally suitable elements, with a solid construction process,” stated Bill Heifner, President of Renier Construction. “We look forward to celebrating the opening ceremony of the Mitsubishi dealership in March with the great people of the Richfield Bloomington communities,” continued Heifner.
