Design-Build Institute of America Presents Design-Build Leadership Award to Heifner

William (Bill) Heifner, President of Renier Construction received the Distinguished Design-Build Leadership Award honoring his demonstrated leadership in the advancement of design-build* and design-build best practices. The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) presented the award during the 2011 Design-Build Conference & Expo opening general session in Orlando, Florida.

“Bill Heifner’s dedication to the design-build method of project delivery and best-practices in design-build are particularly remarkable given that his home state is Ohio,” said DBIA Executive Director Lisa Washington. “Until last summer, Ohio did not allow the use of design-build on public projects. Still, by continuing to promote the use of “design-build done right” in the private sector, Mr. Heifner has done both his clients and the design and construction industry a great service. The DBIA is proud to present Mr. Heifner with a national award for Distinguished Leadership,” concluded Washington.

“This recognition is especially meaningful, as it has been my passion to help decision makers and advisors understand the choices that dramatically affect their construction project. I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the Renier Construction team and our clients,” said Heifner.

Heifner performed his first design-build project more than 30 years ago. “Although the project was fairly small, it was a significant turning point for the way we approached the business,” said Heifner. “Design-build rapidly became the majority of our workload and since 1999 we made the decision to exclusively perform design-build projects and we have never looked back,” Heifner continued.

Over the past five years, Heifner has developed and presented a series of educational seminars. The sessions are non-promotional in nature and offer advisors, owners and public officials an in-depth comparative view of the design-build process. He has conducted the seminars for participants across the country and is determined to ensure decision-makers and advisors understand the choices dramatically affecting their construction project.

*Design-build is an integrated approach that delivers design and construction services under one contract with a single point of responsibility.
